In November, the John S. Knight Center in downtown Akron became a forest of 150 glittering trees for the 2010 Holiday Tree Festival. It took the work of more than 1,400 volunteers to turn this annual tradition into reality, with décor ranging from nutcrackers and angels to a contemporary “Avatar”-themed tree featuring its own Na’ vi.
The preview gala on Nov. 19, welcomed dancers from the Ballet Theatre of Ohio, who performed a selection of dances from “The Nutcracker.”
At its closing, the festival raised $216,000 to support Akron Children’s mission of providing family- centered care, helping the hospital fund more than 100 advocacy, education, outreach and research programs to care for all aspects of a child’s well-being.
The 30th annual Holiday Tree Festival will be Nov. 19-26, 2011, at the John S. Knight Center in Akron.
