Procedures & Tests - Renal Biopsy

(This procedure/test may also be known as: kidney biopsy)

A renal biopsy may be performed to check for kidney problems seen on an imaging test, if blood or protein is found in the urine, to check on a problematic transplanted kidney, or to see if a treatment is working. The biopsy involves a long thin needle put through the back into the kidney.
