Procedures & Tests - Bone Density Scan

(This procedure/test may also be known as: Bone Densitometry, DEXA)

A bone density test measures how much calcium and other types of minerals are present in a section of your bone. This non-invasive test will determine your child's bone density and strength. Children and teens may be referred to Akron Children's for a bone density test if they have cystic fibrosis; numerous fractures; long-term steroid use; metabolic disease; recurrent falls; growth disorders; muscular dystrophy; cachexic disorders; and malabsorption syndromes.
