Procedures & Tests - Kidney Dialysis

(This procedure/test may also be known as: Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis)

Dialysis filters the body's blood when the kidneys no longer work. Through dialysis, a person is hooked up to an artificial filtering system that removes waste from the blood.

There are 2 dialysis methods: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Hemodialysis uses a filtering machine to remove waste and extra fluid from your blood. Peritoneal dialysis filters the blood through the lining in a person's stomach.
