Procedures & Tests - Hepatobiliary Scan for Biliary Atresia

Biliary atresia occurs when the bile ducts do not develop normally in the fetus, resulting in bile duct blockage. The hepatobiliary scan for biliary atresia is a nuclear scan that uses tiny amounts of radioactive material, or radioisotope, to take pictures of the chest and abdomen.
