Akron Children's Pediatric Physiatry division specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation for children and teens with injuries to the muscles, bones and nervous system. Read More...
The Physiatry program focuses on the child or teen’s ability to function as independently as possible.
Our physiatrists use rehabilitation interventions to improve daily function and quality of life for children and teens with disabilities of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system, as well as their family.
Our doctors use assessment tools, such as nerve conduction studies and EMG tests, to track electrical activity of muscles and determine your child’s physical and rehabilitation needs.
From there, we can apply treatments through therapy, medical equipment or orthotics to improve your child’s development and daily function, from bathing and dressing to communication and mobility.
We also work closely with pediatric neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuropsychologists and developmental-behavioral pediatricians as needed.
