Our Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery provides surgical treatment for abnormalities of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system for infants, children and teens. This includes surgery for intractable seizures, as well as head and spine deformities, problems and injuries of the brain, spine or nerves, spasticity and birth injuries.
Neurosurgical problems in children are often quite different from those commonly seen in adults and frequently require ongoing care.
Children diagnosed with brain or spinal cord injuries and diseases also may experience widespread developmental affects. That's why our pediatric neurosurgeons work closely with pediatric neurologists, neuropsychologists, physiatrists and developmental-behavioral pediatricians.
In addition to their expertise in pediatrics, our neurosurgeons also use advanced technology, including an intraoperative MRI, a 3T high-resolution MRI and sophisticated brain mapping. These technologies, as well as our neurosurgeons’ skill and specialized training, ensure children receive the highest quality care.
Pre- and post-operative treatment, including ongoing care for a neurological condition, is coordinated through the team in the NeuroDevelopmental Science Center.
