Children and teens admitted to Akron Children’s in downtown Akron or in Boardman, or to the pediatric unit at MedCentral in Mansfield, may be assigned to an inpatient doctor or hospitalist. Our hospitalists are board-certified pediatricians who specialize in managing the care of pediatric hospitalized patients.
Our hospitalists will help your child’s primary care doctor diagnose and manage your child’s care by:
While your child is in the hospital, a hospitalist will see your child each morning and as often as needed during the day. Your child’s nurse may contact the hospitalist 24/7 to address concerns you may have. We try to have the same hospitalist manage your child’s care whenever possible. The hospitalists are also familiar with hospital services that are available and can assist you in using these resources.
Our hospitalists are able to quickly respond to changes in your child’s condition and modify treatment plans. This helps prevent complications and reduces costs. Once your child is ready to go home, a hospitalist will arrange your child's discharge.
The hospitalist may also want to see your child after he goes home. Once all concerns are resolved, your child will return to the care of your primary doctor.
Although your primary doctor will be involved in your child’s hospital care and kept informed of your child’s progress, you may not see your primary doctor during your child’s stay. A summary of your child’s care will be sent to your doctor when your child goes home.
We rely on your generosity to provide quality medical care to every child who needs us.
