Outpatient Pharmacy

Outpatient Pharmacy

The outpatient pharmacy at Akron Children’s Hospital stocks many over-the-counter and prescription medications, particularly items not available at neighborhood pharmacies, such as medications for patients with cystic fibrosis, cancer and clotting disorders. Our outpatient pharmacy is located in Suite 300 in the Locust Professional Building.

Our pharmacists also flavor certain medications using the FlavoRX system to improve their taste, and specialize in compounding medications for children. Our pharmacists only use formulas provided by the drug companies or tested in studies.

Children’s outpatient pharmacy also offers personal care items and specialized items for burn patients and premature babies, including preemie diapers and pacifiers, and products called Thick-It® and Simply Thick® that thicken all types of foods and liquids – even water – for patients with cerebral palsy, seizures, swallowing problems, reflux and other digestive disorders. Items not in stock can generally be ordered for next day delivery.

Most insurance plans are accepted, and we may be able to file both your primary and secondary insurance, such as BCMH (Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps) or Medicaid.

To contact Akron Children's outpatient pharmacy, call 330-543-8322. In addition to filling prescriptions for Children’s patients, the pharmacy often fills prescriptions for families and employees.
