An estimated 1,000 bike enthusiasts with teddy bears in tow are expected to fill Perkins Square Park at Akron Children’s Hospital for the 16th annual Children’s Caravan Teddy Bear Motorcycle Run on Sunday, Sept. 18.
The bikers will depart from Adventure Harley-Davidson in Dover at noon and present their bears to the patients at Akron Children’s Hospital upon arrival at the hospital at 1:15 p.m.
Since 1996, participants in the Teddy Bear Motorcycle Run have distributed tens of thousands of bears to the young patients at Akron Children’s Hospital. What began as a way for a grateful parent, Penny Martin, to offer appreciation to Akron Children’s for the care her son received, has become an annual tradition.
Each child receiving care at the hospital on Sept. 18 will receive a teddy bear, and the remaining bears will be placed in the hospital’s inventory and distributed to patients throughout the rest of the year.
Money raised during the event will be donated to Akron Children’s Hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit and the hospital’s toy fund.
