Falls are the number one injury-related reason that children 14 years of age and younger visit the ER.
In a new video by Akron Children’s Hospital, Lisa Pardi, RN, MSN, injury prevention coordinator at Akron Children's Hospital, discusses the risk factors related to falls and what parents can do to protect their children.
"The best tip we can give parents is to remind them to supervise their children," said Pardi, "and for parents to learn the different kinds of risks children are at as they grow."
Pardi says there is a general rule of thumb for a child who has fallen. If the child has fallen more than twice her height, she needs to be evaluated by a doctor. The video explains some of the more common falls evaluated in the Akron Children’s Emergency Department and some prevention techniques.
