Pizza Hut donates 500 books to Akron Children’s Hospital

Donation is part of Pizza Hut’s Local Pizza Hut® Franchisee Wins BOOK IT!® Big Book Giveaway

Akron Children’s Hospital will receive 500 books as part of the BOOK IT!® Big Book Giveaway on Thursday, Nov. 15. Local franchisee Hallrich Incorporated, headquartered in Stow, was one of 20 winners nationwide and will donate 350 books to Akron Children’s Akron campus and 150 books to Akron Children’s Beeghly campus in Boardman.

Two separate donation events with Akron Children’s and Pizza Hut representatives will take place on Nov. 15. The first event at Akron Children’s Hospital’s Beeghly campus will occur at 10 a.m. and the second, at the Akron campus, begins at 3:30 p.m.

The books will be given to patients receiving care at Akron Children’s, as well distributed through the hospital’s Reach Out and Read® program, which supports the development of early literacy skills among children as a standard part of pediatric primary care.

“Pizza Hut has long been a champion of services and programs that benefit the community.  Its national Book It reading program nurtures the minds of children and fosters a love of reading,” said John Zolio, executive director of Akron Children’s Hospital’s Foundation.

Founded in 1989 by Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, National Young Readers Week is an annual event that encourages young readers to get excited about reading. The Giveaway challenges Pizza Hut restaurants nationwide to develop creative and impactful ways to donate books to their local communities as part of the program’s goal to motivate children to read more and develop a lifelong love of reading.
“We are grateful to be named a winner of the National Young Readers Week Big Book Giveaway,” said Carol Magazzeni, director of marketing & public relations at Hallrich Incorporated. “We focus our community service on families, in particular children. Akron Children’s Hospital is a natural fit, and we hope that these books will brighten the spirits of children and their parents during their stay.”
