Akron Children’s 113th Charity Ball celebrates community service

The 113th Charity Ball and 65th presentation of debutantes, which was held Dec. 30 at E.J. Thomas Hall in Akron, is expected raised $85,000 for the patient-care programs at Akron Children’s Hospital.

The evening featured the presentation of 23 debutantes who were chosen based upon their parents’ and grandparents’ service to the community.  Some 450 people attended the event presented by the Women’s Board of Akron Children’s Hospital.

During dinner, which was presented by A Taste of Excellence, guests were seated throughout the lobbies of E.J. Thomas Hall. Music was provided by Special Request.

Tammy Gersman was this year’s chair.

The first-ever ball, the Mary Day Nursery Ball, was held in 1895 to raise money for the Mary Day Nursery, the predecessor to what is now known as Akron Children’s Hospital. The presentation of the debutantes began in 1951.
