Akron Children’s Hospital is accepting applications for its Summer Pediatric Research Scholars Program for 2012.
The 10-week program is for college freshmen, sophomores and juniors planning careers in health care professions, including medicine, nursing, pharmacy and research.
Students begin the program in mid-June and commit to working at least 24 hours per week at the hospital. Each student is assigned a mentor to work on a specific research project.
Projects may focus on ways to improve the healthcare experience for patients, enhance medical staff productivity, or evaluate the effectiveness of a clinical intervention.
Students also have opportunities to shadow clinical teams in various hospital departments, ranging from the neonatal intensive care unit to surgery. Students also consult members of the Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute staff. Research scholars must give a presentation of their project findings at the conclusion of the program.
A stipend is paid as a scholarship to each student’s college or university.
To apply, visit www.akronchildrens.org and search for “Summer Pediatric Research Scholarship.” A selective interview process will be conducted. Previous formal research experience is not required.
The application deadline is Jan. 1, 2012.
