Akron Children’s welcomes new Advocacy site director

Dr. John Melville


John Melville, MD, joins Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley as the site director of the Child Advocacy Center.

Dr. Melville recently completed a fellowship in child abuse pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He completed his residency at Akron General Medical Center and Akron Children’s Hospital in internal medicine/pediatrics.

Dr. Melville, a San Diego native, graduated from the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine with his medical degree. He holds two master degrees, one in clinical investigation from the University Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the other in computer science from Brigham Young University. He earned his undergraduate degree in computer science from Brigham Young University.

As site director at the Child Advocacy Center, Dr. Melville will work with law enforcement, child protection services, medicine, mental health, victim advocacy and the prosecutor’s office with concerns of physical abuse, sexual abuse or neglect.

The Child Advocacy Center is located on the Beeghly campus at 6505 Market Street in Boardman and provides services for children from birth to age 18 who may have experienced abuse or neglect. The mission of the center is to bring together existing community disciplines in a child-friendly environment to provide comprehensive assessments in response to concerns of child maltreatment.
