04-26-2013

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley will name Clear Channel Youngstown “Champion for our Valley’s Children” at its third annual Champions for our Valley’s Children, a dinner celebration, on Tuesday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. at The Lake Club in Poland. In addition, 15 individuals and organizations will be honored with the “Children’s Advocate Award.”

The Champions for our Valley’s Children event will highlight Akron Children’s progress in the Mahoning Valley and will recognize those who have helped to make it possible, including donors, volunteers, staff and community partners.

“In 2012, a total of 1,982 donors contributed $2,143,700 to support our local programs and services,” said JoAnn Stock, Akron Children’s director of development. “We are so very grateful for the support of Children’s programs and services in the Mahoning Valley.”

Since the opening of the Beeghly campus in Boardman in 2008, more than $7.5 million has been donated to support the mission of Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.

Clear Channel Youngstown will be recognized as the 2013 “Champions for our Valley’s Children” for their outstanding support and generosity. During the past four years, the Miracles and Promises Radiothon, which is broadcast live on Mix 98.9 and 570 WKBN, and promoted on all local Clear Channel stations, has generated more than $540,000 for Mahoning Valley programs and services.

“Not only has the Miracles and Promises Radiothon raised significant dollars for our local programs and services, but through the patient stories and program spotlights broadcast during the Radiothon, it has helped to increase awareness of the patients we help and the services we offer,” said Stock.

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley will also recognize 15 individuals and organizations with the “Children’s Advocate Award.” The purpose of this award is to recognize individuals and organizations throughout the Mahoning Valley that exhibit the spirit of caring and are working to make a difference in the lives of children in the communities the hospital serves.
