Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley is pleased to introduce the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) to the community.
Established in 1995 at the hospital’s Akron campus, PAC members are volunteers who have used Akron Children's Hospital and are interested in offering their input on issues that impact the care of children. The program provides a means for parents and guardians to work with the hospital to enhance its philosophy of patient- and family-centered care.
The inaugural 2013-2014 PAC Mahoning Valley officers are Michael Platt, chair; Christa Coleman-Ng, vice chair; Jana Yenyo , project manager and Michelle Golladay, secretary. Shareece Mashiska, Kelley Platt and Kelly Robertson also join the voluntary group of parents.
“The Parent Advisory Council has been an important part of our culture and dedication to family-centered care for many years and we’re thrilled to bring it to the Valley,” said Lisa Taafe, clinical administrative director, Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. “Our relationships with patient families are extremely important to us and we are humbled by their willingness to learn about our value system and give us their time to improve care for all children in the community.”
The newly elected officers will serve a two-year term and convene monthly. Parent Advisors can serve in several capacities, including parent mentors, supporting other parents whose children have a similar diagnosis; sitting on hospital committees or focus groups; and assisting in the review of information, policies and procedures.
