Michelle Burke, MD, has joined Akron Children’s Hospital as a sports medicine specialist.
Dr. Burke completed medical school at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and then completed her pediatrics residency and sports medicine fellowship at Akron Children’s Hospital.
She serves as the team physician for the Mogadore high school football and the University of Akron Zips football and women’s basketball. She has a special interest in summer camps, and serves on the advisory board for the YMCA’s Camp Y-Noah.
Dr. Burke joins Akron Children’s Hospital's Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, a multi-disciplinary team of sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, and athletic trainers who work to keep young athletes healthy and in the game.
Services include the diagnosis and treatment of all sports-related injuries, musculoskeletal and bio-mechanical analysis to prevent injuries and improve sports performance, a head injury management program, on-site x-ray and casting for fractures, gait analysis, wellness services for active adults, and collaboration of care with rehabilitation services.
The center is also the hub for the hospital’s childhood obesity programs - Future Fitness Clinic, Future Fitness Clubs and PE Fit - and educates area coaches, athletic trainers, primary care physicians and others involved with youth sports through conferences, workshops and outreach efforts.
Dr. Burke is an avid rock climber and enjoys playing softball, volleyball and basketball.
