Amy Maneker, MD, has been named chief medical information officer for Akron Children’s Hospital, effective Jan. 16.
In her new position, Dr. Maneker will support the development of Akron Children’s clinical information systems and assist clinicians in the delivery of patient care. She will work closely with the hospital’s medical staff, administration and information technology department as Akron Children’s moves forward with its conversion to electronic medical records (EMR).
Dr. Maneker comes to Akron Children's from Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital/University Hospitals Health System in Cleveland, where she was involved with the UH EMR project in a number of roles.
Most recently, Dr. Maneker served as an EMR director of physician design, leading the design and build of the EMR and being the physician lead for the implementation. Throughout her tenure on the EMR team, she acted as a physician liaison, supporting the communication and partnership of clinicians and the EMR team.
As a clinician, she has been an attending physician in the division of pediatric emergency medicine and assistant professor of pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Dr. Maneker holds degrees in biochemistry and medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Babies Hospital/Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Maneker has also taken post-graduate studies in the Physician Executive Institute at the CWRU Weatherhead School of Management and is currently enrolled in a certificate program in clinical informatics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Akron Children’s began its entry into EMR in November 2009 with the selection of the Epic system and additional hospital departments continue to complete training and “go live” each month. The roll-out should be complete by June 1.
