John Fargo, DO, joins Akron Children’s Hospital as a pediatric hematologist-oncologist.

Dr. Fargo joins Akron Children’s Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders, a team that includes board-certified hematologists-oncologists, educators, counselors, social workers, and one of the largest groups of certified pediatric oncology nurses in the country.

 Dr. Fargo’s clinical interests include hemophilia, bone marrow failure and solid tumors. He sees patients at Akron Children’s Akron campus and its Beeghly campus in Boardman.

After attending medical school at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine, Dr. Fargo completed his pediatrics residency at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital/Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. He completed his fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC.

Akron Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive care to children, teens and young adults with all types of childhood cancer, sickle cell disease, hemoglobinopathies, and bleeding/clotting disorders, as well as those who require stem cell/bone marrow transplants. The program ranks in the top third of pediatric cancer centers in the United States in terms of the number of new cases seen each year and is one of only a handful in the country that has been recognized by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a “Pediatric Teaching Hospital Center Program.”

As a member of the Children’s Oncology Group, the world’ largest childhood cancer research entity, Akron Children’s follows National Center Institute-approved treatment protocols, ensuring that patients have access to the most current treatment recommendations.

Dr. Fargo resides in Cleveland Heights.
