Akron Children’s Hospital ranked in seven pediatric specialties in U.S. News and World Report’s annual ranking of the Best Children’s Hospitals for 2014-15.
Akron Children’s ranked:
“Our doctors, nurses and support staff strive every day to offer the highest-quality care to our patients. That is what drives us and any external recognition we receive from awards, lists and rankings is just icing on the cake,” said Shawn Lyden, executive vice president at Akron Children’s Hospital. “We are always happy to be in the company of other great children’s hospitals and work closely together to improve care and outcomes. Caring for the children of our community and their families is - and has always been - our honor and privilege.”
For the 2014-15 rankings, U.S. News surveyed 183 pediatric centers to obtain clinical data in 10 specialties and asked 150 pediatric specialists in each specialty where they would send the sickest children. Eighty-nine hospitals ranked in at least one specialty.
For families of sick children, Best Children’s Hospitals provides unparalleled quality-related information in addition to rankings, including survival rates, adequacy of nurse staffing, and procedure volumes. Since their 2007 debut, the rankings have put an increasing emphasis on data that directly reflect the hospitals’ performance over the opinions of physicians.
