Akron Children’s book signing raises awareness about adoption

Akron Children’s Hospital will host a book signing with “Porcupette Finds a Family” author Vanita Oelschlager on Thursday, June 16 from 4 – 6 p.m. in the Atrium Lobby at Akron Children’s Hospital.

The event, which is open to the public, will feature a special reading by the author at 5 p.m., as well as light refreshments. To attend this free event, please call the Akron Children’s Hospital Foundation at 330-543-8340 to make reservations.

“Porcupette Finds a Family” tells the story of a baby porcupine, Porcupette, who must overcome the loss of his mother and find acceptance with his new, adoptive family. Proceeds from “Porcupette Finds a Family” will be donated to the Oak Adoptive Health Center at Akron Children’s Hospital. Copies of the book are on sale in the Akron Children’s Hospital gift shop for $8.95.

The Oak Adoptive Health Center prepares and educates parents and families involved in domestic, international and special-needs adoptions. It also provides medical history, psychological and developmental evaluations, as well as support to encourage the healthy growth of the adoptive family. The Center was established in 2004 with a donation from Jim and Vanita Oelschlager.
