Wooster Community Hospital (WCH) and Akron Children’s Hospital have signed an agreement to expand the services that Akron Children’s offers at WCH beginning earlier this month.
Akron Children’s pediatricians will treat pediatric inpatients, care for newborns in the Obstetrics unit and will cover high-risk deliveries. The nursing and support staff will remain WCH employees.
“Akron Children's has been providing exceptional care to children in our community for many years,” said Dr. Loraine Frank-Lightfoot, chief nursing officer at WCH. “We expanded the collaboration to include pediatric care to further develop the partnership between Wooster Community Hospital and Akron Children’s.”
Since 2000, Akron Children’s has also been offering primary care services for Wayne and surrounding counties for infants, babies and teens in the WCH Milltown Professional Building in Wooster. The pediatricians of this office – Drs. Kathryn Helmuth, Louise Miller and Shellie Russell – will be seeing inpatients and newborns at WCH as well.
Akron Children's Maternal-Fetal specialists also see patients at the Subspecialty Physician Center located on Winter Street adjacent to the WCH Main Campus.
Shawn Lyden, Akron Children’s executive vice president, said, “By working together, we can conveniently offer comprehensive pediatric care. We are committed to offering the latest advances in pediatric care and technology to children in facilities that are close to their family and friends.”
