Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley will celebrate the second anniversary of the opening of the Beeghly Campus with a ceremony and the lighting of the Children’s tree on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m.
The celebration will include carols by the children of Hitchcock Woods Preschool, cocoa, cookies, a visit by Santa Claus and children’s activities including face painting, cookie and ornament decorating and more. The event is free and open to the public.
Since Akron Children’s Hospital opened the Beeghly Campus two year ago, thousands of local children have benefitted from the programs and services offered in the Mahoning Valley.
“More than 37,000 children have been cared for in our emergency room, and 3,700 patients have been admitted as inpatients or for observation visits,” said Sharon Hrina, Akron Children’s Vice President of Mahoning Valley Services. “Additionally, since the opening of our pediatric surgical services in October of 2010, more than 70 surgical procedures have been completed."
In addition to the tree lighting ceremony, a wall of honor recognizing the Beeghly Family for their contributions will be unveiled.
Akron Children’s Beeghly campus is the site of the former homestead of Leon and Mabel Beeghly. The wall will feature photos of the original Beeghly home as well as family pictures.
“Thanks to the continued generosity and support of the Beeghly Family, a new home has been created – a home for the very best pediatric healthcare for the children and families of the Mahoning Valley, “said William Considine, Akron Children’s President and CEO.
The celebration will be at Akron Children's Beeghly campus, 6505 Market St. in Boardman.
