AKRON, Ohio (March 23, 2016) – The Friends of Akron Children’s Hospital will host its annual “Purses are Like Friends” luncheon on Saturday, April 2 at 11 a.m. at Fairlawn Country Club in Akron.
The luncheon will feature the sale and auction of new and gently-used purses. Proceeds will benefit Akron Children’s Haslinger Family Pediatric Palliative Care Center. Pediatric palliative care focuses on children, prenatal to young adult, with complex, chronic or serious conditions and their families, enhancing quality of life in partnership with cure-directed care.
Doors open at 11 a.m. for a social hour with lunch to follow. Tickets for the event are $24 per person.
The Friends of Akron Children’s Hospital has received nearly $1,500 in purse donations for this year’s event. About 850 purses will be auctioned or sold during the luncheon and an additional 500 purses were donated to Haven of Rest.
“It’s such a wonderful event because not only can you have a fantastic lunch with your friends and shop for some amazing purses, you’re also supporting the families who have children in palliative care,” said Ruby Winter, one of the event chairs.
This year’s event is chaired by Winter, Joyce Berkenstock and Pat Keefe. The reservation deadline for the luncheon is March 25, 2016. For more information, call the Akron Children’s Hospital Foundation office at 330-543-8340.
