Kohl’s donates more than $188,000 Akron Children’s “Fit and Healthy Kids” program

Akron Children’s Hospital is proud to announce that Kohl’s Cares has once again donated $188,000 to support Akron Children’s “Kohl’s Fit and Healthy Kids” program, aimed at increasing physical activity and knowledge about nutrition and portion sizes. The Kohl’s grant provides free programming and practical resources to 15 elementary schools in Summit, Medina, Wayne, Portage, Stark and Mahoning counties. Akron Children’s provides the curriculum, equipment and supplies at no cost to the schools.

The rally will include different activity stations where students will have the opportunity to hula-hoop, jump rope, and maneuver through agility ladders and cones. Further, each student receives a pedometer that they’ll wear for 10 weeks to track steps taken toward progressive walking distance goals each class will set for itself. Supplemental activities like “What’s on your plate” that teach portion control and “Re-think what you drink” that educates about the effects of sugary drinks will also be held during the program.

Since 2000, Kohl’s has donated more than $4.3 million to Akron Children’s Hospital.
