Women’s Board of Akron Children’s Hospital tees up fundraising efforts

06-18-2012

The Women’s Board of Akron Children’s Hospital is partnering with the Northern Ohio Golf Charities, Inc. to raise money for Akron Children’s Hospital at the 2012 World Gold Championships® Bridgestone Invitational, which will be held Aug. 1-5 at Firestone Country Club.

Members of the Women’s Board are soliciting pledges for the popular Birdies for Charity contest in which participants guess the number of birdies made during the Bridgestone Invitational. Contest participants can make a one-time donation or pledge five cents or more for each birdie. A grand prize, $5,000, will be given to the person who guesses the correct number. Additional prizes include a 42” flat screen TV, Bridgestone golf clubs and bag, and a set of four Bridgestone tires.

Monies raised during the 2012 Birdies for Charity program will be used to purchase equipment for Air Bear®, Ohio’s first dedicated, pediatric transport helicopter. For more information, or to obtain a pledge form, please call 330-543-8899 or email AkronBirdiesForCharity@gmail.com.

Additionally, tickets for the Bridgestone Invitational are available for sale through the Tickets Fore Charity program. Tickets may be purchased online at www.buytfc.com with the code GRIP. Discounted tickets are available, including $20 daily grounds tickets and $75 weekly grounds tickets during the tournament. Seventy-five percent of the proceeds from each ticket will be donated to Akron Children’s Hospital.

Since the hospital’s opening in 1890, the Women’s Board has played an integral role in Akron Children’s growth and development. Currently, 75 active members give their time in support of the hospital’s mission through activities such as operating the hospital’s gift shop, supporting the hospital’s legislative and advocacy efforts and holding the annual Charity Ball each December.
