The 17th annual Forest Heritage Festival to be held Oct. 19 and 20

Annual fall festival has raised more than $913,000 for Akron Children’s Hospital


Akron, Ohio (Oct. 2, 2012) - The 17th annual Forest Heritage Festival will take place 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Oct. 19-20, at Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds in Dover. Admission is free.

The Forest Heritage Festival began in 1996 when associates from the New Philadelphia Walmart and the East Central Ohio Loggers Chapter partnered to raise money for Akron Children’s Hospital. Sixteen years later, the festivities have grown from a one-day event in the Walmart parking lot to a fall family favorite at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds. The Forest Heritage Festival has raised more than $913,000 for Akron Children’s Hospital, including more than $60,000 last year.

This two-day festival has activities for people of all ages, including Great Lakes Timber shows, Ohio Farm Bureau demonstrations, forest equipment displays, craft booths and vendors.

Friday’s events include:
• Great Lakes Timber shows
• Ohio Farm Bureau demonstrations
• Forest equipment displays
• Portable sawmill displays
• Educational displays
• Craft booth exhibits and vendors

Saturday’s events include:
• Pancake and sausage breakfast from 7-10 a.m.
• Benefit auction starting at 10 a.m. of handmade Amish furniture, quilts and more.
• Forest education sessions
• 3rd annual car show beginning at 1 p.m. with registration at 11 a.m.
• Horse-drawn wagon rides
• Artisan demonstrations
• Craft booth exhibits and vendors
