Akron Children’s Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic partners with families to help coordinate referrals to community resources to provide the best possible developmental outcomes for your child.
Early intervention is critical to successful development. That’s why our team meets with high-risk infants several times to monitor their growth, development and behavior.
We focus on the development of the nervous system, including evaluating your child's motor skills such as smiling, sitting and walking, and muscle tone and positioning.
Speech and behavioral development also are important during follow-up, as well as periodic hearing and eye assessments.
As children grow, some premature infants may require speech therapy or physical therapy.
Infants who experienced complications in Akron Children’s neonatal intensive care unit may require additional care by medical specialists.
