A message from the chief nursing officer

As I transitioned to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) role in the second half of 2010, I embraced the inspiring lead of past CNO Grace Wakulchik in challenging staff to identify innovative ways to advance nursing practice.

I’m impressed with the commitment our nursing staff shows toward providing exemplary practice to improve, maintain and promote the health and well being of patients, families and the community – making our nursing vision a reality.

We achieve this vision through pursuing formal education, seeking professional certification, participating in professional organizations, advocating for patients and families, expanding nursing research and advancing evidence-based care and continuous quality improvement.

I appreciate the strong, collaborative relationship nursing has with the interdisciplinary team, evident on a daily basis in patient safety initiatives such as hand-off communication, bedside rounds and family presence, that provide outstanding patient- and family-centered care.

Congratulations to our nurses for making a difference every day! Thank you for your commitment to patient and family-centered care and continuously striving to practice with the highest professional nursing standards as recognized since 2007 by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program.

Of note, less than 7 percent of all U.S. health care organizations have achieved Magnet designation and only 34 are children’s hospitals. We are proud to be among the best of the best, leading the way as the largest pediatric health care provider in northeast Ohio.
