Cystic fibrosis patient Lindsay Simcic, age 23, lives with her parents in Massillon, Ohio, and has two older sisters and a golden retriever, Sadie.
Lindsay graduated from high school in 2005. In August 2005, she moved to California with a goal of becoming an actress.
She said, “Everyone there wants to do that.” Lindsay also said that it's “easy to find an agent, but not a good one.”
For the first few months, she was her own manager through an online website. While working on that, she needed to support herself, so she worked at a clothing store inside the Kodak Theater. She also served as a hostess at Ketchup, a well-known restaurant that's in many movies.
Lindsay returned to Ohio in 2010. California's expensive cost of living and a CF exacerbation brought her back.
Her daily CF routine includes:
For the first 2 years after moving to LA, she did well with taking her medications and doing her treatments.
After that it seemed like "everyone wanted to do stuff all the time" so she put off taking care of herself. Eventually, Lindsay got sick and needed to be hospitalized for the first time at 23 years old. Now she does well with following a routine.
Since getting back into a routine of doing her CF medications and treatments, she has more energy and has put on weight. She also doesn't cough as much and sounds better when she talks.
Breathing treatments are a struggle for her. She does them in the morning, but at night they interfere if she wants to do something. She sometimes gets lazy and doesn't feel like doing her treatments, but she “just sucks it up and does it.”
She freely admits she feels better when she does her treatments.
Today, Lindsay attends Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School in Cleveland, which she will finish in November. She has really enjoyed the program but doesn't like sitting in class.
Lindsay also enjoys attending concerts, with country music being a favorite. She likes listening to Kenny Chesney, Kid Rock, Eminem and Rhianna. Her favorite movie is Factory Girl, and her favorite food is barbeque.
When Lindsay finishes school, she would like to move to Cleveland. Her goals are to work for someone else doing hair and to work at a news station doing hair. Someday she hopes to own her own salon and go back to school to become an RN.
Lindsay was a contestant in the Miss California pageant and wants to be in the Miss Ohio pageant, possibly in 2012.
