Specimen Type: Blood

Tube Type: Purple top (EDTA) tube

Collection Volume: 0.4 mL (minimum 0.2 mL)

Cause for rejection: Hemolysis, icterus, lipemia, not delivered on ice

Storage: Refrigerated; Frozen if specimen can't be run immediately

Availability: Daily, 24 hours; STAT

Methodology: Enzymatic, with glutamate dehydrogenase

Special Instructions: Venipuncture only! Place specimen on ice and deliver to lab immediately.

If ordered with a CBC please collect a separate specimen for the Ammonia.

For Outpatients, test should only be drawn in outpatient locations within the Hospital on the Beeghly campus.
