Cause for rejection: Stool specimen contaminated with urine or water. Specimen containing interfering substances such as barium.

Methodology: Microscopic examination

Special Instructions: Soft, loose, or liquid stools must reach the laboratory in 1-2 hours to be placed in preservative. Stool preservation kits are not available from the laboratory. WARNING: Any stool collected by or from the patient may harbor pathogens which are immediately infective.
