What do you suggest as a healthy after-school snack for someone who is allergic to peanuts?
Nuts are a good source of protein, but they're also high in fat and not required for a healthy diet. More than 3 million Americans are allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, such as walnuts, almonds, and cashews, so you're not alone.
You have many healthy, non-nutty after-school snack options. Your best bet is to combine something tasty and healthy with your favorite fresh fruits and veggies. Why not try whole-grain cereal with some bananas, or low-fat string cheese with whole-grain crackers and apple slices? You can even try a variety of veggies, like celery and carrots, with low-fat ranch dressing.
Be creative and come up with some of your own healthy snack ideas, but be sure to save room for dinner!
