If you are looking for a pediatric residency program where you can learn to manage children with acute and chronic illnesses in an environment that promotes family-centered care, visit us at Akron Children's Hospital.
We believe in helping our residents achieve their academic and professional goals through mentoring with faculty who are interested in resident education. In order to support our residents' professional growth, our academic advisor program pairs each resident with a faculty advisor. In addition, residents select a research advisor who assists in the completion of a scholarly activity project.
Our program is unique in providing residents with continuity clinic experiences that are based in the community rather than a hospital-based "residents' clinic." At our program we believe in pairing you with a general pediatrician in the community so you learn what it is really like to practice general pediatrics.
We provide residents who are interested in General Pediatrics with the opportunity of choosing the primary care track. If you choose this track you are provided with additional learning experiences in the ambulatory setting.
Our program's motto is "we will help you get there," whether you plan on a career in general or subspecialty pediatrics. A number of our graduates have furthered their training in subspecialty fellowships throughout the country while others have decided to practice general pediatrics in urban, suburban and rural environments.
Our Residency Program’s Mission Statement is “We strive to be the light at the beginning of the tunnel; illuminating for ourselves and those around us the path to becoming the ideal pediatrician.” We define the ideal pediatrician as a dedicated and humanistic clinician, a lifelong learner and educator, and a compassionate advocate for others.
Another special feature of our program is the tremendous resident and faculty camaraderie. You can select a member of the faculty to become your “mentor” during your three years of residency, guiding you through your years in Akron.
Akron Children's Hospital is located in a family-friendly Midwestern city with a low cost of living. Where else can you live and work within 15 minutes of the 6th most visited national park? We hope you will visit us!
We rely on your generosity to provide quality medical care to every child who needs us.
