Akron Children's owns and operates the 15-bed neonatal intensive care unit at Akron General Medical Center. The unit is staffed by board-certified neonatologists, nurse practitioners, nurses and respiratory therapists.
The NICU is designed for newborns who require short-term respiratory support, typically one week or less.
Newborns who require the care of Akron Children's surgeons, cardiologists, nephrologists and other pediatric subspecialists are transported to nearby Akron Children's Level III NICU.
