****Ready for flu season? We recommend children older than 6 months receive an influenza vaccination this fall. Unfortunately, we have not received our full shipment yet, so clinic dates have not been announced. Please check back or call the office for more information.

Also, please be aware:
-- FluMist is not available: the CDC does not recommend nasal mist during the 2016-2017 flu season due to low effectiveness in preventing the flu for children. Learn more in this blog post.

-- First-Time Vaccination: children 6 months to 9 years of age need to get two doses of flu vaccine four or more weeks apart during their first season of vaccination. Children who only get one dose but need two doses can have reduced or no protection from a single dose of flu vaccine.

-- Egg Allergies: most children with a history of mild egg allergy (i.e., hives) can safely receive the influenza vaccine without needing an allergy consultation, but parents should consult an allergist before administering flu vaccine to children with a history of severe egg allergy (i.e., cardiovascular changes, respiratory or gastrointestinal tract symptoms or the required use of epinephrine).

-- High-Risk Groups: children younger than 6 months are at high risk of serious flu illness, but are too young to be vaccinated. So the CDC recommends that people who care for them should be vaccinated instead. Additionally, children with chronic health problems like asthma and diabetes are at especially high risk of developing serious flu complications.

About Us  This Akron Children's Hospital Pediatrics (ACHP) office is one of 27 locations to offer pediatric primary care for babies, children and teens close to home. Each office is staffed with experienced, board-certified pediatricians. Most insurance plans including Medicaid are accepted.

Your family is welcome to go to any ACHP location if your “home office” can’t meet your needs once in a while – i.e. a sick visit. All of our providers and staff can access your child’s medical records.

The electronic medical records system also incorporates an online portal called MyChart for patients and parents to easily access immunization records, test results, health summaries, as well as the opportunity to request and schedule appointments, request prescription refills and send secure messages to healthcare providers and staff.

Need to schedule a well visit?  You don't need to call the office to make an appointment for a well visit if you have a MyChart account. To get started, simply login to MyChart, select the tab for the child you want to make an appointment for and finally select the “Schedule an Appointment” link in the left-hand column. Every ACHP provider the child has seen in the last 2 years will be an option for direct scheduling, but it’s strongly suggested you choose the child’s primary care provider.

We are also a Reach Out and Read ® site.
