Remembers those who are special to you at Hope Lights the Way

Hope Lights the Way celebrates special lives

We all have special people in our lives who have illuminated our hearts with their friendship, love or simple acts of kindness. At this year’s Hope Lights the Way event, Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m., you can pay special tribute to a friend or loved one, living or deceased, by having a luminary dedicated in his or her honor.

This annual celebration of friendship will be held, rain or shine, in Perkins Square Park in front of Akron Children’s Hospital. The evening will include an inspirational message from hospital employee Shawna Roach, luminary dedications, refreshments and a vocal performance by hospital employee Jenna Williams.

Luminary dedications are free of charge and there is no limit to the number of requests that can be made by each individual. Forms are available at hospital’s Human Resources department, on the web at, or by calling (330) 543-8335 with the information you would like placed on the dedication.

“Dedicating a luminary is easy, and people honor friends and loved ones for any number of reasons,” says Sanders. “Everyone needs hope and everyone has a different story. At Akron Children’s Hospital, we’re here for the community, and no matter what path you’re on, hope can light your way. That’s what this event is all about.”

There is no charge to attend this cancer awareness community event. Free parking is available in the Bowery Street Parking Deck.
