The insulin pump can be a wonderful tool for managing your diabetes. However, in the experience of Pediatric Endocrinologists, without proper training and appropriate expectations, the use of a pump can result in poor outcomes and ketoacidosis. Before starting a pump, you must attend one of our pre-pump classes. Our center desires the best experience for our patients.
To ensure a positive pumping experience, we require the following prior to starting an insulin pump:
- Your child must be diagnosed at least six months prior to pump start
- You must attend a pre-pump class
- You must have a solid foundation in carbohydrate counting
RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. To register, you may call the blood sugar line (330) 543-3377 or toll free 1-800-262-0333, ext. 3377, or you may use the blood sugar website to e-mail our staff. Please include your child’s name, date of birth, and a number where you can be contacted should the class be cancelled. You will not receive a return call of confirmation for the class.
