The Akron Children’s Hospital NeuroDevelopmental Science Center offers a multidisciplinary Down Syndrome Program to provide complete medical and developmental evaluations for children from infants to adolescents. We work in collaboration with the child, the family, their primary care provider and community resources to help ensure the best possible physical health and developmental outcomes for children with Down syndrome.
The Down Syndrome Program works closely with specialists in cardiology, genetics, and adolescent medicine, as well as other allied health professionals from psychology, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology and otolaryngology. This approach ensures that all children receive the comprehensive care needed to meet their unique developmental and functional goals.
We believe that early intervention is the key to successful development and that appropriate interventions throughout childhood and adolescence will lead to greater achievement in individuals with Down syndrome. While families play an integral role in supporting their children in making developmental strides, our knowledge and expertise will help provide the necessary foundation.
