As one of only two pediatric hospitals in the country that treats adult burn patients, our institute has a treatment room, physical therapy room, operating room and tub room. We care for burn victims from time of injury through rehabilitation.
We also provide preventive programs, such as Juvenile Firestoppers, to teach children and adults ways to avoid burn injuries.
The staff of Akron Children's Paul and Carol David Foundation Burn Institute is actively involved in burn research and burn-care training for professional and community groups. In fact, Akron Children’s researchers discovered the method for growing human skin in the laboratory in 1974, a technique that revolutionized the treatment of burns.
Our Burn Institute is verified by the American Burn Association and The Committee on Trauma of The American College of Surgeons, which recognizes individual and institutional commitment to total burn care and a formal system for quality burn-care delivery.
