Information About Diabetes

(also known as Juvenile Diabetes, Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes or Gestational Diabetes)

Diabetes is a chronic (lifelong) disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood. There are 3 main types:

Type 1 diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to properly control blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes is marked by high levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood. Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar (diabetes) that starts or is first diagnosed during pregnancy.
