Information About Constipation

(also known as sluggish bowel syndrome, lazy bowel syndrome)

Constipation is defined as bowel movements that are hard, infrequent and difficult to pass. Occasional, short bouts of constipation may be normal. It is typical for young infants to strain when having a bowel movement. This is not an indication of constipation if the stool is soft.
