Akron Children's Chaplaincy Services includes full-time chaplains and a number of on-call chaplains and volunteers from many faith traditions who help patients and families deal with suffering, loss and celebration through active listening, presence and, when appropriate, prayer and religious rites.
Chaplaincy Services helps people make connections to whatever sustains them spiritually and to find meaning in the experience of hospitalization. Where religion is present, Chaplaincy Services seeks to help people experience the reality of God's presence and love in their lives.
The chapel is open for meditation and prayer 24 hours a day.
Our chaplains will respect your dignity and privacy and will not impose religious beliefs or practices. Chaplains are caring listeners. You set the agenda and determine the depth of any conversation you have.
Anyone may request a visit: patient, family member, your church, your nurse, your doctor or another member of the hospital staff. In an emergency, you may ask a staff member to page a chaplain.
Our mission is:
Our program exists in a multicultural and religiously diverse institution, and respects and advocates the rights of each individual. Witness to the sacred texts is expressed in wholistic ministry to the emotional and spiritual needs of all persons serving or being served by Akron Children’s Hospital.
Chaplaincy Services staff recognize and respond to the inter-relatedness of the whole person by providing an atmosphere of concern for the individual person. Through caring presence during significant moments, the dignity of the human person and the sacredness of the gift of human life is affirmed.
