Akron Children's total rewards package includes additional benefits and programs. The benefits are designed to enhance your work experience at the hospital by meeting a variety of diverse needs, including paid time off, educational assistance, sick child care, adoption assistance, nursing care ladder and many more.

Pay and Recognition
Pay Changes Pay changes are generally made annually. Pay grades are reviewed annually and adjusted based on market data.
Service Awards The hospital recognizes and rewards faithful service by presenting awards to eligible employees upon completion of 5-year milestones at periodic service award receptions.
Shift Differential Non-exempt employees receive a pay differential for working evening or night shifts.
Unemployment Compensation Akron Children's offers unemployment compensation in accordance with state laws.
Workers' Compensation Employees who have a work-related injury are covered by the hospital's Workers' Compensation benefits in conjunction with the state program.
Education
Educational Assistance Akron Children's encourages your professional development. If you're a regular full-time or part-time employee (non physician), you may be eligible to receive up to $5,250 in financial support for participation in formal education programs during unpaid hours. The hospital is accredited by the Ohio State Medical Association to provide Continuing Medical Education for physicians.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program Akron Children's partners with Innovative Student Loan Solutions to provide personalized expertise to employees who meet specific eligibility requirements to qualify for student loan forgiveness.
Library/Employee Learning Center Employees have access to the Mary Hower Medical Library and services. The Employee Learning Center offers computers with Internet access and educational programs to assist with your educational needs.
Time Off
Bereavement Leave This income replacement policy provides time off to regular full-time and part-time employees to make arrangements for and to attend the funeral of an immediate family member.
Jury Duty Income replacement benefits while serving jury duty are available to you if you're a regular full-time or part-time employee.
Leaves of Absence Akron Children's provides Family Medical Leave in accordance with the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and will also grant Supplemental Disability Leave to employees who don't qualify for FMLA or after their FMLA is exhausted. Military Leave is also granted in accordance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act, and any other applicable laws and regulations. Employees who don't qualify for one of these leaves may apply for a Personal Leave of Absence.
Paid Time Off

Akron Children's PTO program allows you flexibility in scheduling time away from work. PTO can be used for vacation, personal business, national holidays, etc. Your PTO hours are earned and accrue based on your job classification, date of hire, years of service, and the number of hours you've been paid. Accrual rates increase at 3, 6, 13 and 18 years of service.

Work/Meal Breaks Akron Children's makes every effort to provide paid work breaks and non-paid meal breaks for employees.
For You and Your Family
529 Savings Plan The BlackRock College Advantage 529 Savings Plan allows you to set aside pre-tax contributions and withdraw your savings free from federal taxes for eligible college expenses. Ohio residents will not be subject to Ohio state tax on earnings and qualified withdrawals through this plan.
Adoption Reimbursement Program Regular full-time and part-time employees may be eligible to receive a $1,000 benefit that helps offset some adoption expenses.
Best Benefits Club You'll find more than 350 discounts available on everyday products, services, amusement parks, movie theaters, etc., through the Best Benefits Club website.
Breast Pump Benefit Access to lactation consultants, an electric breast pump kit, and the use of a private room are available to new mothers returning to work.
Business Travel Accident Plan Akron Children's provides insurance coverage for you if you suffer an accidental injury or death while traveling on business for Akron Children's. There is no cost to you for this benefit.
Credit Union You can open an account at MedPro Credit Union.
Employee Assistance Program The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides counseling sessions for you and your dependents. The program offers support for a variety of problems or concerns including stress, anxiety, depression, marital problems, family counseling, financial difficulties, and alcohol and drug abuse.
Employee Discount Program You can receive a 50% discount off the balance due, after all third-party sources have been exhausted, for most services (excluding prescriptions) received within Akron Children's enterprise and billed by the hospital or one of its billing agents. Third-party sources include group medical, government or private insurance coverage. This discount does not apply to co-pays or deductibles required by the third-party payer.
Employee Loans The hospital recognizes you may sometime be faced with an extreme circumstance where financial resources are needed. A short-term loan in the form of a payroll advance may be granted in certain situations.
Flower Fund Akron Children's will send flowers or make a memorial contribution in the event that you have a death in your immediate family.
Wellness Benefits Akron Children's is committed to employee wellness and provides Health Risk Assessments and screenings, discounted fitness facility memberships, Weight Watchers at Work, and a number of other wellness programs and initiatives.
While at Work
Parking Free parking is available on several surface lots, or employees may choose deck parking for a bi-weekly fee, as space is available.
Sick Child Care Center Subsidized use of Akron Children's Sick Child Care Center at the Akron campus is provided during hours in which you are working at the hospital.
