Overview

Akron Children’s Hospital's comprehensive Brain Tumor Clinic diagnoses and treats all types of brain and spinal cord tumors in infants, children and teens. The clinic meets monthly in the Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders on the Akron campus, offering patient families convenient, coordinated care.

The team develops an individualized treatment plan to meet the medical and support needs of each patient. Treatment may include a combination of surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.

The clinic brings together a variety of disciplines, such as neurology, neurosurgery, endocrinology, physiatry, neuropsychology, ophthalmology, social work and palliative care, to address the short- and long-term effects of central nervous system tumors and their treatment.

These can include, but are not limited to:

  • Delayed or early puberty
  • Diabetes
  • Emotional difficulties
  • Growth delays
  • Learning disabilities
  • Physical disabilities
  • Speech, vision and hearing difficulties
