Akron Children's Hospital offers a Section 125 Flexible Benefits Program that includes various health and welfare benefit options on a pre-tax basis. These options include “Core” non-contributory benefits that are automatic for benefits-eligible employees, and contributory benefit options that employees can select from based on individual needs.
You have 31 days from your date of hire or status change to make your benefit elections online. With the exception of the disability plans, your coverage is effective the first day of the month coinciding with or following your first date of active employment in a benefits-eligible status.
Short and Long Term Disability will become effective 3 months later. Conversely, benefit cancellations will be effective on the last day of the pay period in which termination occurs, with the exception of Life, STD and LTD, which will end on the date of termination, and in accordance with plan provisions.
Once made, benefit elections remain in effect until the end of the calendar year unless a change is made within 30 days of a qualifying life event or status change. Benefit changes and premium changes are announced for the new year at the annual open enrollment in October, and employees have the opportunity to review their benefit needs and make new benefit elections.
Akron Children’s pays the full cost of basic life insurance and, if you’re a full-time employee, Short and Long Term Disability coverage. You and the hospital share the costs for medical, prescription drug and dental benefits. You pay the full cost for vision and optional benefits (including additional disability coverage, supplemental life insurance, dependent life insurance, and any other voluntary benefits offered).
You pay your share of the cost through biweekly payroll deduction. All benefits (except Long Term Disability, Dependent Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits) are paid on a pre-tax basis. Your out-of-pocket costs may also include annual deductibles, co-payments and coinsurance for covered services.
The wellness program at Akron Children’s includes a Health Risk Assessment (HRA). Each year, you have the opportunity to complete an online questionnaire from Health Fitness Corp. The survey provides an online report that can be printed.
A health advisor from Health Fitness Corp. will review the results with you. On-site health screenings are also available at no cost – and the biometric results from each screening are automatically loaded into your HRA.
