Aquatic therapy at Akron Children’s Hospital provides a unique environment in which to help children develop independence in movement, function and communication. The pool provides an exciting setting, allowing children to work through the natural resistance of water. The buoyancy of water can assist with otherwise difficult movements. The hydrostatic pressure is also useful in reducing swelling and exercising the breathing muscles.
Our physical, occupational and speech therapists work in an onsite pool with adjustable depth. Kept at 92-93 degrees Fahrenheit, the water provides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment.
Sessions are tailored to the needs of each child using toys, floatation devices, weights and other activities and equipment. All children have the chance to experience aquatic therapy, unless prohibited by certain medical conditions or other limiting factors.
We rely on your generosity to provide quality medical care to every child who needs us.
