Akron Children's Adult Congenital Heart Program provides the medical and surgical care this complex patient population needs. Read More...
Akron Children’s Adult Congenital Heart Service provides ongoing monitoring and specialized care for adults with congenital heart disease. As children with congenital heart disease (CHD) become adults, they can access lifetime care through our center.
Adult congenital heart patients have different medical concerns than adults who acquire heart disease as they age.
Adults born with heart disease may experience holes in their heart, narrow or absent blood vessels, malformed heart valves, or a reversal or absence of important heart structures.
Many adults with CHD may also develop heart failure, rhythm problems and valve disease, requiring specialized care to improve their quality of life.
Pediatric patients can transition into adult care without ever leaving Akron Children’s Hospital Heart Center.
Led by Dr. John Lane, our team helps young adults transition by addressing medical concerns and offering the latest in treatments, including medications, interventional cardiac procedures and open heart surgery.
We also consult with patients on issues affecting their quality of life, such as:
