Holly Pupino joined Akron Children’s in April 2008 after working closely with the team for many years as a freelance writer and PR consultant. As media relations specialist, she works closely with local and national media to generate coverage for the hospital, and responds to the day-to-day needs of print and broadcast reporters. She also is the primary writer for Children’s Check-Up, a quarterly newsletter mailed to Akron Children’s referring physicians. Before joining the hospital, she was a freelance writer for the Akron Beacon Journal and held PR positions with the Nationwide Insurance Companies in Columbus. She has bachelor's and master’s degrees in journalism from Ohio State University.
Laurie Schueler joined Akron Children’s in 2001 as a media relations specialist. She is responsible for day-to-day media relations activities as well as @AkronChildrens. During her tenure, she has worked with various local, regional and national media outlets, including People magazine, Reader’s Digest, the “Dr. Phil Show,” “NBC Nightly News,” “Good Morning America,” the “Today Show” and the “Early Show.” Between 1995 and 2001, Laurie was an editor at the West Side Leader in Akron, covering business, local politics and the Summit County Metro Parks. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and is a graduate of Leadership Akron.
Annie Sofran joined our team in April 2010 as the senior public relations specialist for Akron Children's Mahoning Valley. She is responsible for media relations and internal communications for the hospital’s Mahoning Valley campus and the services offered throughout Youngstown. Annie has received media placement in several publications, including the Philadelphia Inquirer, Design/Build magazine and U.S. Banker magazine. Before joining Akron Children’s, Annie was marketing/PR specialist for Youngstown’s Humility of Mary Health Partners, where she developed and implemented marketing and public relations initiatives for multiple service lines. She brings with her more than 15 years of public relations experience with a focus in the healthcare industry. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa.
Anne joined our team in July 2010 as senior public relations specialist for the Akron Children's Hospital Foundation. In this role, she has responsibility for the marketing and PR activities for the Foundation, including media relations, collateral development and social media. With more than 11 years of public relations experience, Anne also serves as editor of Children’s Progress, the Foundation’s magazine. Prior to joining Akron Children's, she was a public relations associate at Summa Health System in Akron. Additionally, she worked in the communications department at Adventist HealthCare in Rockville, Md., and as a PR specialist for the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ohio University.
